DJI Announces the Zenmuse L2:
On 10/10, DJI announced the Zenmuse L2. We believe the new L2 will offer exceptional technical improvements over both the L1 and the current mid-tier sensor market. We’re excited to share what we know about the delivery timeline, and how we view the technical specs.

While we hear DJI will start taking orders at the end of the month, no official shipping timeline has been given yet. Aerotas will be among the first to receive the L2, and we can’t wait to put it to the test. We plan to put the sensor through an in-depth review, which we are confident will confirm the claims made by DJI. What are those claims? We’re glad you asked.
L2 vs. L1
The on-paper L2 specs present multiple improvements over the L1 including:
Better IMU translating to better overall accuracy. We believe this will be the most impactful difference between the L2 and L1
Greater sample rate and smaller point size, lead to richer, more precise data at faster flight speeds
Increased field workflow efficiency through:
No IMU Warmup period! Get RTK lock and fly right away (no 15-minute wait)
Higher flight ceiling means shorter flights (up to 400’)
Five returns for greater vegetation penetration
L2 vs. Mid-Tier Sensor Market
We believe the L2 offers value vs the competition for the following three reasons:
First-Party Payload Simplicity - The Zenmuse line belongs to DJI, so configuration and setup are designed to be seamless. We’ve seen plenty of projects using other sensors go wrong because setup complexity leads to post-processing issues.
Five Returns - We mentioned it vs. the L1 as well. No other sensor appears to support five returns, with other mid-tier sensors only supporting up to three.
No Added Software Costs for Aerotas Clients - We perpetually hold Terra licenses, so there is no need for Aerotas clients to maintain their own subscription costs. Other hardware companies require post-processing software you’d need to buy.
